Charlotte & Joe’s Wedding

A Beautiful Spring Wedding in the Stunning Lincolnshire Countryside

After changing their plans a couple of times, Charlotte and Joe were married at The Granary in West Deeping, a tranquil country escape set in 20 acres of Lincolnshire countryside. Having worked in hospitality they didn’t want an ‘off the shelf’ wedding. Charlotte is a designer who loves all things bohemian. Joe is the son of a farmer and they both love the outdoors. When they first visited The Granary, they instantly fell in love with the outdoor spaces, twinkly lights and the option to have a full weekend wedding. They were smitten with the gorgeous grounds, quirky house and wonderful team.

How They Met

Charlotte and Joe met on a dating website. They soon found out they had mutual friends and it was likely that their paths had crossed before. Joe insists that he had to message Charlotte repeatedly to get her to even go on a date with him, but she doesn’t remember it that way at all! Charlotte does remember walking away from their first date with a big smile on her face.

The Engagement

The happy couple got engaged in 2019 whilst skiing in Val d’Iesre. Joe is mad about skiing, and this was their first ski trip together. They were in a gondola heading down the mountain overlooking Mont Blanc when Joe popped the question, he had snuck the ring in his ski boot! They ordered champagne at the bottom of the mountain and called everyone they know.

#LoveIsntCancelled

Charlotte and Joe were due to get married with 150-200 people in September 2020 but made the choice to postpone to May 2021. They then changed their plans again in January when they made the decision to reduce their guests to 30. They live streamed the ceremony for everyone who couldn’t be with them on the day.

Charlotte told us how upsetting it was when they first changed their date. They lost 3 of their suppliers and deposits they paid out. They did still celebrate their original date with a picnic at the venue and then a BBQ with immediate family. They called it their ‘un-wedding’ and found it a lovely way to mark the day. They were much more prepared for it the second time when they had to reduce their numbers. Charlotte told us “It was just a case of wanting to get married and move on with the next chapter of our lives together.”

Charlotte’s Dress Me Pretty Experience

My experience was magical. I dreaded dress shopping as I felt like a bigger and curvier bride. I worried that nothing would fit, and everything would look awful. I had been to numerous different boutiques before coming to Dress me Pretty and once I arrived all my worries and fears melted away. The boutique is beautiful, the team is lovely and the range of dresses are just out of this world!

‘The’ Dress

Charlotte wore our Vivienne dress by Essense of Australia. “My dress made me feel incredible! I have always felt like a bit of an ugly duckling and a bit of a porker but not in this dress! It was everything I wanted, and Joe loved it too!”

How did you feel on your big day?

Charlotte told us the lead up was a real mix of emotions as she wanted everything to be perfect and for everyone to have a good time. She managed to get a good sleep the night before and woke up feeling remarkably calm. Nerves kicked in at the church but once they were married, she was just so happy!

Charlotte’s Special Memory of the Day

“The whole day was truly magical and being able to celebrate with our nearest and dearest in such an intimate way was just lovely! There were also a few surprises along the way including video messages from friends and family from further afield who couldn’t be with us and local friends gathering outside the church for the confetti toss and a cheeky glass of bubbles! We felt truly loved and special because of the extra effort everyone went to.”

Charlotte’s Advice for Brides-to-be

“Pick suppliers and people to work with that you love and want to work with. We have made lifelong friends with most of ours! When planning, if you have a vision stick to it even if people think you are mad. The day really does fly by so just try and enjoy every moment. Joe and I made a conscious effort to go for a walk after the wedding breakfast to touch base, look back at everyone and reflect on the day before the party started and this was a lovely moment for just him and I.”
