What Should I Wear to My Wedding Dress Appointment?

Booked your first wedding dress appointment? How exciting!

And then comes the next question…

“What Should I Wear to My Wedding Dress Appointment?!”

Honestly, this is something we get asked all the time.

Do you need a strapless bra? What underwear should you wear? Should you bring your wedding shoes? What should you do with your hair?

So, we thought we’d make it nice and easy for you.

The good news is, you really don’t need to overthink it.

You don’t need to buy anything especially for your bridal appointment, and you definitely don’t need to turn up looking like a bride already.

Just come as you are, and we’ll help with the rest.

What should I wear to a wedding dress appointment?

Something you’re comfortable in!

You’ll be trying on a few different wedding dresses, so we’d recommend wearing something that’s easy to get changed out of.

We want you to walk through our door feeling comfortable and relaxed.

And if you’re feeling a little nervous, that’s completely normal.

What underwear should I wear wedding dress shopping?

This is probably one of the questions we get asked the most!

We’d recommend wearing nude or light-coloured underwear to your appointment, just so you feel comfortable when you’re trying on different dresses.

If you have a strapless bra, you can bring it along, but don’t worry if you don’t have one.

Lots of our dresses have built-in support, so some brides actually decide they don’t need to wear a bra at all when they’re trying dresses on.

It really depends on the dress and, more importantly, what you feel most comfortable with.

So please don’t feel like you need to go out and buy special underwear before your appointment.

Wear what makes you comfortable and we’ll take care of the rest.

And just a little reminder, the dresses you’re trying on are samples, so they won’t necessarily fit you perfectly straight off the rail. That’s completely normal!

We’ll clip and pin them where needed so you can get a really good idea of how the dress will look on you.

What shoes should I wear wedding dress shopping?

If you’ve already got your wedding shoes, bring them along!

If you haven’t bought them yet, don’t worry at all.

You don’t need to have every little detail of your wedding sorted before you’ve found your dress.

If you know roughly what heel height you’re thinking of wearing, that’s helpful, but it’s not essential.

And if you’re completely undecided, we have shoes at the boutique you can try with the dresses.

So don’t let not having your wedding shoes stop you booking your appointment.

What should I do with my hair?

Again, there’s no right or wrong answer.

If you know you’re planning to wear your hair up on your wedding day, it can be helpful to have it up when you’re trying dresses.

Likewise, if you’re thinking of wearing it down, wear it down!

It can give you a little idea of how different necklines and backs might look with your hairstyle.

But if you’ve got absolutely no idea what you’re doing with your hair yet…

That’s fine too!

You don’t need your wedding hairstyle planned before you’ve even found your dress.

Should I wear makeup to my wedding dress appointment?

Wear whatever you normally wear.

If you love getting ready and want to put your makeup on, go for it.

If you don’t normally wear much makeup, that’s absolutely fine too.

We want you to feel like you, not like you’re dressing up as someone else for your appointment.

We’d just ask that you avoid anything that could transfer onto the dresses, particularly heavy foundation.
